Methodist Children's Home Society is seeking a personable, positive, outgoing Development & Marketing Coordinator to join our cause. The Coordinator will assist in a multitude of tasks, a good mix of marketing, advocating for at-risk youth, coordinating volunteers, facilitating activities, and coordinating major company events. The ideal candidate will have an inner passion to help at-risk youth and ability to learn and speak about the organization and its needs.

Under the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Development Coordinator supports all activities within the Development Department, primarily focused on special events, third party events, volunteer engagement, and community relations, all in an effort to help Methodist Children’s Home Society (MCHS) achieve optimal fund development operations and positioning of the organization.


1.   Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of short and long term fund development and fund sustainability activities.

2.   Develop, cultivate and maintain close contacts with donors and prospective donors. Maintain a portfolio of approximately 25 prospective donors in an active cultivation cycle.

4.   Implement and support fundraising activities as it relates to major gifts, direct gifts, grants, donor prospecting, planned giving and special events.

5.   Serve as the primary coordinator for agency special events, which includes the planning, organizing, coordination, promotion, and facilitation of all special events.

6.   Coordinate volunteer activities, including the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers for MCHS.

7.   Maintain essential records and gift acknowledgements.

8.   Supervise and support any 3rd party special events, including internal and external events with service clubs.

9.   Provide general oversight and guidance to special event committees and special event volunteers

10. Solicit and organize gifts for silent auctions.

11.  Represent the agency to outside groups and organizations, including business, community, and media events.

12.  Develop and execute speaking engagements with various entities throughout Michigan.

13.  Fully participate in regular agency-wide events and appropriate community-wide events and activities.

14.  Manages the implementation of Raiser’s Edge and oversees staff responsible for data entry and gift processing.

15.  Performs other duties as assigned by the CDO.


Education and Experience

The Development Coordinator will be an experienced professional with an array of fund development experience, primary in special events and event organizing. Coordinator will be outgoing and motivated to reach out in the community and extend MCHS’s mission and vision to donors, volunteers, community partners, and other key stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least two (2) years of experience in fundraising, or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred with at least one (1) year of experience in fundraising.
  • Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.

The Knowledge of:

  • Computer and software applications (All MS Office, Adobe Suites, Website Development).
  • Principles and practices of fund development operations and management.
  • Tactical planning and organizing.

The Skills and Ability to:

  • Communicate verbally and in writing with agency staff, government officials, foundation and corporate executives.
  • Demonstrate leadership and integrity.
  • Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identify the best people for the job.

  • Work flexible hours, when needed, which may include some evenings and weekends.
